FOCUSING ON YOUR FAMILY
It’s never too late to focus on your children’s ocular health and vision. Children depend on their vision for learning, developing social skills, and playing sports. Their sight is important at every age of development.
Children's eye exams are performed differently for young kids with pictures, lights, and singing to put them at ease. If your child needs glasses, we offer a wide selection of styles to choose from! Book their appointment today to set them up for success - and a lifetime of healthy vision!
WHEN DO CHILDREN NEED EYE EXAMS?
Bringing your child in for their eye exam may be the most vital assessment for their learning and growth. They say a child will never know their vision is blurry until they see what is clear.
The Canadian Optometric Association recommends:
- 6 to 9 months: baby’s first eye exam
- 2 to 5 years old: at least one eye exam during this period
- 6 years old + : one eye exam per year
The frequency of your child’s eye exam will be determined after their first appointment. Those with a family history of lazy eye or parents with high myopia may be followed more closely.
VALUABLE VISUAL SKILLS
Good visual skills are essential to learning. Approximately 80% of what children learn happens through their vision. Whether it’s reading, interacting with kids, throwing a ball around, or seeing what the teacher writes on the board, eyesight is involved.
Your child’s vision is just as important to us as it is to you. Children who start school with undiagnosed vision problems struggle to keep up in class. They may be misdiagnosed with ADHD or another behavioural disorder.
