WHAT IS CHILDREN’S VISION THERAPY?
Vision therapy for children in Vaughan is an individually tailored program using eye exercises to improve visual dysfunctions and learning difficulties. The program is non-invasive and includes dedicated one-on-one weekly sessions using lenses, prisms, filters, and hand-eye coordination activities.
The first step is to undergo a visual skills assessment with our vision therapist to diagnose learning inefficiencies and to understand how our clinic’s visual therapy program can help improve your child’s learning potential.
HOW CAN VISION THERAPY HELP MY CHILD LEARN?
It is important to note that learning-related vision difficulties are not the same as learning disabilities. Vision therapy helps with learning difficulties by retraining the brain and visual system to work together.
Vision therapy can help with these visual symptoms:
- Poor focusing/fluctuating vision with disinterest in reading
- Eye strain, headaches, and double vision with near activities
- Poor eye tracking: losing place while reading or skipping words
- Lazy Eye (amblyopia) or Eye Turn (strabismus)
- Poor spatial awareness & lack of hand eye coordination

TREATMENT DURING THERAPY SESSIONS
When it comes to Vision Therapy Treatment for Children, we do not believe in a one-size-fits-all program for every child, that is why our vision therapy curriculums are developed on a case-by-case basis to fit your child’s unique visual needs. Beyond having clear vision, the eyes and brain must work together. The following skills will be improved during therapy:
- Eye Teaming - ability of both eyes to work together
- Eye Tracking - following a moving target
- Fusion (Binocular Vision) - combining separate images from each eye to form a single image
- Accommodation - focusing clearly on a near object
- Visual Motor Integration - hand-eye coordination
As your child completes each therapy session, progress checks to measure improvements and next steps are discussed. The curriculum is continually modified to fit their needs.
